New Years Resolutions = Insanity
As we walk down the same path each year always trying to change direction, always trying to be different, we often find ourselves back in the same place over and over again, expecting different results. Insanity, I think it's called.
That's how I feel about New year's resolutions. Sure, the new calendar year does present a measured and relevant opportunity for one to change direction or to alter their path, but does it really? Let's look back on all the New year's resolutions you've ever made. How many of them did you keep? How many of them opened up a new pathway in your life that you stuck to? My problem with the New year's resolution is that just like the new year it comes into our lives feeling fresh and brand new and then everything changes and we drop it like a bad habit in anticipation for the next one. Why wait for the new year? Why not change today? Can you really change in two weeks? If your going to expect a change, don't expect the world of yourself.
Don't start "cold turkey". That's a foolish notion and will most likely be cause for failure. Start small with achievable goals and then continue to test the limits, only so much, until you become used to the process and more confident to push it further. It's ok to make mistakes. Ate that cake, huh? Doesn't mean your whole day, week, or year is ruined. Just keep exercising or trying. It's ok to reward yourself, but that will of yours needs to become stronger. It's not going to happen over night.
A lot of new gym memberships are happening soon. Most will just debit accounts while they sit unused. Think about it and make a positive life change, not a resolution.
